NiMh batteries as they are capable of
the same capacity as Nickle batteries whilst being smaller.
Lithium batteries do not suffer from the so called "memory
effect".

some cases the original battery supplied with a phone
may be NiMh and in many cases there may be a Li-ion alternative
now available. These are usually of a higher capacity
than the original and can be charged using the original
standard charger.
The
benefits of a higher capacity battery include a longer
standby time and a longer talk time.
